Know Before You Go Visit Information

Preparing to welcome you back

We have been making necessary preparations for your next visit and are pleased to announce plans for the phased reopening of Arboretum grounds beginning with access for members. Not a member? Join today

           Members-only access: June 1-14, 2020
Open to nonmember visitors starting: June 15, 2020

These dates will continue to be evaluated and adjusted if needed while monitoring the ongoing health situation.

As everyone anticipates the beauty and respite of the Arboretum this summer, the health and safety of visitors and employees will remain of utmost importance. To ensure your wellbeing, entering and visiting the Arboretum will be different from usual.

Admission Process
Advance, date-specific, timed-entry online member passes and tickets will be required, to ensure paced arrivals and moderated attendance levels. Each person visiting must reserve a member pass or ticket in advance online, including children.

Please note: This is the only method for admission, and is a change from the Arboretum’s previous admission process. Member passes and tickets will not be available on-site, and members and visitors without advance online timed-entry passes or tickets will be directed to exit.

Please reference the admission and timed-entry FAQ for more information.

Timed-entry member passes are not required for Thornhill Society or President’s Council members. Interested in joining the Thornhill Society or President’s Council? Learn more

Online Reservations

For more information and instructions for the reservation process, visit the timed-entry guide and the admission and timed-entry FAQ. We are launching a new ticketing system that will improve the online timed-entry pass process, and appreciate your patience with any temporary issues.

Timed-entry tickets for nonmember visitors will be available starting June 10, 2020.

If you have questions about your membership, please email membersmail@mortonarb.org.

If you have questions about the new process to reserve member timed-entry passes or tickets, please email tickets@mortonarb.org.

With many Arboretum staff continuing to work remotely due to health protection measures, we appreciate your patience.

Please reference the admission and timed-entry FAQ for more information.

Entering the Arboretum
After a timed-entry pass or ticket is secured online, it will be emailed to the email address provided in the transaction process. When you arrive at the Arboretum for your visit, gatehouse attendants will ask to see the member pass or ticket and entry time. You may also show a printed member pass or ticket, if preferred. Members will also need to present their member card.

Adjusted hours: 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily (last entry at 5:00 p.m.)
Limited tickets are available daily for the following time slots: 7:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. The Arboretum closes at 6:00 p.m and all guests must leave the grounds at that time.

Ensure a Safe Visit
Social distancing will remain essential for all who visit. Special measures will be put in place to ensure this on-site. Please be considerate of other visitors by practicing social distancing around the Troll Hunt sculptures and in other areas of the Arboretum, such as parking lots and on trails. Visitors are asked to wear masks when within six feet of other visitors who did not arrive with them.

All buildings are closed until further notice, including the Visitor Center, The Arboretum Store, the Plant Clinic, the Ginkgo Cafe and Restaurant, the Sterling Morton Library, and the Thornhill Education Center. The Children’s Garden and Maze Garden are also closed. Manual wheelchairs and strollers will not be available for loan.

All indoor restrooms are closed. Please plan your visit accordingly. Portable restrooms are available in the bus lot (Visitor Center parking area), Big Rock Visitor Station (Parking lot 13 - East Side), and Prairie Visitor Station (Parking lot 25 - West Side).
