In spring, the forest comes alive with the comings and goings of its many inhabitants. Take a leisurely walk on a path surrounded by trees and look for squirrels building new nests, birds singing on branches, chipmunks rustling in the leaves, turtles basking in the sun, and other animals emerging from winter’s slumber.
Spring is nesting time for most species of birds. Take a morning walk in April or early May to listen to the beautiful songbird chorus and observe birds’ complex behavior as they seek mates, build nests, and defend their territories – all before trees fully leaf out!
Trees fill us with wonder and help us breathe, eat, relax, and stay healthy. They also make our yards and neighborhoods more beautiful and provide food and shelter to countless birds, mammals, and insects.
Be a tree champion this Arbor Day (April 24) and every day. Use these activity suggestions from our early childhood and family programs team to plant, protect, and enjoy trees anywhere you are!
