Maples are at their most vibrant now.
October 26, 2018

Fall color has arrived! Visit the Arboretum soon to enjoy this season’s most vibrant show of color to date.

Sugar maples should display vibrant, sunny color this weekend and next week as long as the weather remains relatively temperate. Their color ranges from yellow-green to a saturated yellow, with some showing a tinge of orange where the sun touches the leaves.

The best spots for sugar maple viewing are Lake Marmo, Sterling Pond, and the east woods (P9 through P15). The east side Maple Collection is another beautiful spot.

Oaks throughout the Oak Collection are beginning to show some fall colors as well. Hard frosts have had an effect on some of the more tender plants, causing some early browning and leaf drop, but overall the grounds are an unusual mix of late green, yellow, brown, orange, and some red.
