As the trees take on summer cloaks of green, pale pink wild geraniums carpet many spots in the East Woods at The Morton Arboretum this week, along with blue woodland phlox and Jacob’s ladder, great white trillium, and pale lavender Virginia waterleaf. Look for these and other wildflowers along the trail between Parking Lots 9 and 13. You’ll also see wildflowers in other locations, including near Lake Marmo on the West Side. Early prairie flowers including shooting star are blooming in the Schulenberg Prairie.
Near the Thornhill Education Center and in other locations, you can enjoy the purple blooms and nostalgic fragrance of lilacs. White flowering dogwood is in bloom in many locations, including the China and Japan collections. In the Fragrance Garden on the West Side and the Ground Cover Garden near the Visitor Center, many perennials are in bloom, including white and blue comfrey, Eastern blue star, white snowdrop anemone, and twinkly white sweet woodruff.
