Class listings

The Dwarf Jade is a popular tropical tree for beginners. The goal of this class at The Morton Arboretum is to come away with a tree that has its first initial styling and is on its’ way to becoming a bonsai.Saturday August, 3, 2019, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Please note the former name of this class: Green Island Ficus (Ficus Macrocarpa) Bonsai Workshop.
This workshop features a selection of field grown Cork Bark Chinese Elm trees. This workshop at The Morton Arboretum will explore the many different possibilities of Chuhin bonsai. Sunday August 4, 2019, 9:00 a.m. to noon.
Dwarf Hinoki Cypress or False Cypress is native to Japan. This evergreen conifer displays flattened, fan like foliage and a trunk that develops an attractive shredding reddish-brown bark with age. Sunday August 4, 2019 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The Brazilian Rain Tree is a beautiful tropical tree. The bark is very smooth and tends to exfoliate creating multi-colored shades in the trunk. The primary focus of this workshop at The Morton Arboretum will be on styling the tree both with wire and branch selection. Sunday August 4, 2019, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
