Course Description

Learn to grow your own salsa just in time Cinco de Mayo! “Made from scratch” gets a whole new meaning in this gardening class. Get tips on what to plant and how to grow it so you can make salsa from produce grown exclusively in your backyard. Learn about growing tomatillos, hot pepper varieties, cilantro, onions, and more. Get recipes for assembling them into delicious and healthy salsa recipes.

Nina Koziol has taught at The Arboretum since 1997. She has a degree in Education and Environmental Science and gardens for butterflies and hummingbirds on a deer-infested acre in SW Cook County. See it at
