This workshop features a selection of field grown Cork Bark Chinese Elm trees. This workshop will explore the many different possibilities of Chuhin bonsai. Cork Bark Chinese Elms are strong, adaptable, fast growing trees with small textured leaves perfect for the beginner or the experienced student. They have a 1-1/2 inch trunk and are approximately 14 inches tall and are in a 3 gallon nursery container. Students will learn design principles as well as how to select and prune branches to develop the desired shape for your tree. The instructor will provide seasonal tips so that your tree will stay healthy for years to come.
Dana is our PSBS 2019 guest bonsai artist. Dana viewed his first bonsai tree at the 1996 Mothers Day Bonsai Exhibit at the Memphis Botanical Gardens. He was so mesmerized by their tranquility, strength, & beauty that he began volunteering at Brussels’ Bonsai Nursery in Olive Branch, Mississippi. The next year, he accepted a full-time position with Brussels’ as the Production Assistant. In 1999, he was chosen as their Production Manager/Resident Bonsai Artist. Dana began giving lectures and demonstrations on bonsai techniques throughout the South, Central, and Mid-West United States in 2000. In 2011, Dana started his own bonsai nursery, which continues to grow.
