Please not the former name of this class: Green Island Ficus (Ficus Macrocarpa) Bonsai Workshop
A popular tropical tree for beginners. It is a very forgiving tree; it should be grown indoors during the winter and outdoors during the summer. The material for this workshop is compact but with a ¾ to 1 inch trunk and 10 inches tall with plenty of branches to work with. The goal of this class is to come away with a tree that has its first initial styling and is on its way to becoming a bonsai.
Dana is our PSBS 2019 guest bonsai artist. Dana viewed his first bonsai tree at the 1996 Mothers Day Bonsai Exhibit at the Memphis Botanical Gardens. He was so mesmerized by their tranquility, strength, & beauty that he began volunteering at Brussels’ Bonsai Nursery in Olive Branch, Mississippi. The next year, he accepted a full-time position with Brussels’ as the Production Assistant. In 1999, he was chosen as their Production Manager/Resident Bonsai Artist. Dana began giving lectures and demonstrations on bonsai techniques throughout the South, Central, and Mid-West United States in 2000. In 2011, Dana started his own bonsai nursery, which continues to grow.
