BIRD STUDY MERIT BADGE

Study the characteristics, behavior, and significance of birds. Investigate the variety and different uses of feathers, beaks, and feet. Learn to identify birds by sight and sound using a field guide. Use binoculars to make skilled observations of birds in local habitats. Build a birdfeeder to attract birds to your own backyard.

FORESTRY MERIT BADGE

Create your own field book to identify local trees and shrubs by leaves, buds, and bark. Study the growth patterns of different wood samples. Understand the importance of forest ecosystems for humans and wildlife. Learn about management techniques to preserve biodiversity in the Arboretum's woodlands. Investigate the health of a forest while observing signs of insects, fires, and disease. Participate in conservation efforts to build a better forest ecosystem.

Reptile and Amphibian Study Merit Badge

Learn the identifying features and other interesting characteristics of reptiles and amphibians. Use your new knowledge in the field to help you ID reptiles and amphibians in their native habitats. Examine a live specimen up close to discover the characteristics of snakes.
