Cultural Requirements: Sun to part shade; found in bottomlands and along riverbanks; tolerant of high pH soil; do not grow near septic fields.

Ornamental Characteristics:  Large, irregular form; mottled , peeling bark revealing white, gray and green patches.

Uses in the Landscape:  Specimen tree for large sites.

Aerial Salt Tolerance: Moderate degree of salt tolerance; use in low salt areas

Plant tolerant of flooded areas for extended periods of time.
