Cultural Requirements: Full sun; prefers rich, moist well-drained soils; found in the wild on dry, limestone outcrops; one of the best oaks for alkaline soils.

Ornamental Characteristics: Lustrous dark yellow-green foliage; fall color varies from yellow to orange-brown to brown; native to the Midwest.

Use in the Landscape: Specimen or grouping tree for parks and large areas.
