Bike nine miles of paved roads that wind through our magnificent tree collections. Hop on your bicycle, and explore our expansive grounds in a new and adventurous way all year-round (Daily, 7am - sunset).
Bike racks are available at the Visitor Center, Big Rock and Prairie Visitor Stations, Administration & Research Center, Thornhill Education Center, and near the Gatehouses at the main entrance.
Our rental season is usually from April through mid-October and includes a variety of bikes, carts, and even wagons. We strongly suggest calling our office at 630-968-0074 before you head out to the Arboretum to see if rentals are being offered that day. Vehicle-free biking is on selected days from May 6 through August 21, 2016. This includes most Fridays from 5:30 p.m. to sunset and most Saturdays and Sundays, 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Excluded dates are May 14, August 6, and August 7. No cars will be allowed on the East Side during these times to allow our walkers, runners, and cyclists some car-free time at the Arboretum. Learn more
