Siberian- Cypress

Tagged as: Low Growing Evergreens

Botanical Name: Microbiota decussata
Common Name: Siberian-Cypress

Updated 11/2012

Siberian cypress

Height: 1-1½'  Spread: 6-8'  Habit/Form: Low, spreading  Growth Rate: Slow  Zone: 2-7

Cultural Requirements: Requires moist, loose, well-drained soil. Best in partial to full shade in regions where summers are hot. Can be grown in full sun if adequate moisture is supplied. No serious diseases if planted in well-drained soil (in poorly-drained soils, root rot is a problem). Deer may eat the foliage in winter if plants are not covered by snow.

Ornamental Characteristics: A low, spreading evergreen shrub with soft, feathery, light-green, scale-like foliage that turns bronze in winter. Inconspicuous, tiny cones are seldom produced.

Uses in the Landscape: Use as a year-round groundcover, in foundation plantings, in shrub borders, on gentle (not steep) slopes, or trailing over ledges.
