Cultural Requirements: Suitable for many types of soils, but best in well-drained, evenly moist soil in full sun to full shade, with protection from winter sun and winds. Can be easily pruned to maintain size and shape. This variety is less susceptible to scale insect infestations than are varieties with variegated leaves.
Ornamental Characteristics: A low, spreading broadleaf evergreen shrub or ground cover. The leaves are glossy green (with purplish undersides), but turn purple in late autumn and winter (hence, the common name). Flowers are inconspicuous. Sparse fruit is bright orange to rose-colored.
Uses in the Landscape: Use as a year-round groundcover.
