Cultural Requirements: Extremely adaptable to a wide range of soil and climate conditions but best in wet to moist soils in full sun to part shade. Leaves are more resistant to leaf spot than other dogwoods. To retain upright stems and good winter color, remove some of the oldest stems every year in early spring.
Ornamental Characteristics: Stems of this dogwood turn a yellow-green in the spring changing to a very colorful coral-red from November through March. Dark green leaves turn a purplish-red in the fall. White flowers appear in late May, with white fruit borne in August-September which attract birds.
Uses in the Landscape: This shrub is best sited where the background, such as evergreens, will show off the coral-red winter stems. Use in mass, shrub border, or as a specimen plant.
