Height: 25-30' Spread: 20-25' Habit/Form: Oval Growth Rate: Medium Zone: 4 - 8

Cultural Requirements: An understory tree requiring part shade and slightly acidic to neutral soil rich in organic matter. The shallow root system will benefit with a 3-4-inch layer of mulch. Does not tolerate salt or compacted soils.

Ornamental Characteristics: Attractive white, bell-shaped, drooping blooms are fragrant and emerge with the leaves in late April, followed by a 4-winged brown fruit in fall. Young trees have an attractive brownish-gray, streaked bark, later appearing blocky as the tree matures. Yellowish-green leaves develop an attractive yellow fall color, dropping early.

Uses in the Landscape: This small, often multi-stemmed tree combines well in a woodland border, shrub border, near a patio, or as a specimen tree.

Plant tolerant of occasional or temporary flooding
