Height: 10-15' Spread: 10-15' Habit/Form: Multi-stemmed shrub or single trunk tree, often upright in habit Growth Rate: Medium Zone: 5-8
Cultural Requirements: Best in full sun to part-shade. Grow in well-drained soil high in organic matter. Quite adaptable to drier, gravelly soils, but avoid low-lying areas where soil remains wet. May suffer from dieback in cold winters, but vigorous stems spring back to life in the spring.
Ornamental Characteristics: The outstanding feature of smokebush is the large, airy, plume-like flower clusters that pass through several color changes, often a smoky pink, and provide interest all summer. The oval or slightly elongated green leaves become reddish-purple in the fall.
Uses in the Landscape: Good in shrub border, in masses, or as an accent or striking focal point.
