Potentilla fruticosa at The Morton Arboretum

Height: 1-4' Spread: 2-4' Habit/Form: Mounded Growth Rate: Fast Zone: 2-6

Cultural Requirements: Grow in full sun for maximum flower production; tolerates many soil conditions except for permanently wet areas. Tolerates alkaline soils and withstands extreme cold. Renewal prune by removing 1/3 of the oldest stems in later winter or early spring, or occasionally cut back all stems to the ground to rejuvenate. Spider mite can be somewhat troublesome in hot, dry weather. Salt tolerant.

Ornamental Characteristics: This finely-textured shrub is known for adding a splash of color to a landscape over a long duration of time. It is extremely hardy in the Midwest. Foliage begins as a soft gray-green and deepens into a medium to dark green mid-summer. Bright, warm yellow flowers grace this shrub beginning in June and continuing until frost.

Uses in the Landscape: Great in shrub borders, an edging plant, along a sidewalk, perennial border, or as a low hedge.

Aerial Salt Tolerance: Highest degree of salt tolerance; use in most exposed areas
