Cultural Requirements: Prefers sun to part shade in moist, well-drained soil. In natural areas it's found on slopes, along streambanks, and in swampy areas.
Ornamental Characteristics: Green foliage is soft and occurs as spreading, horizontal sprays on ascending branches. Cones are ½-inch long, ovoid, and mature from green to brown. Plants are not favored by deer.
Uses in the Landscape: Use as a specimen plant, in groups, as a hedge, or as a screen.
Birds Attracted: Cardinal, grosbeak, chickadee, robin, and sparrows
