Common Name: P.J. M. Rhododendron

Rhododendron

Height: 3-6' Spread: 3-6' Habit/Form: Rounded Growth Rate: Slow Zone: 4-7
Cultural Requirements: Their ability to tolerate near neutral soils makes this one of the most reliable rhododendrons for the Midwest. Thrives in rich, well-drained, slightly acidic soil that is high in organic matter. Place in part to full shade, and protect from damaging sun and wind. Requires very little pruning. This is one of the easiest and most durable rhododendrons to grow in the Midwest.
Ornamental Characteristics: A compact, rounded shrub with dark, glossy, evergreen leaves that turn a mahogany to plum-purple in the fall. Abundant, lavender-pink flowers explode into bloom in mid-May.
Uses in the Landscape: Great in shrub borders or as foundation plants, they are especially showy when massed together with a dark background.
