Cultural Requirements: Sun to part shade in moist, well-drained, organic-rich soil, but will also adapt to more clayey soils.  Mulch to maintain a moist root environment.

Ornamental Characteristics: A small, suckering tree or large shrub. Dark green leaves emerge in early spring and persist late into fall, with yellow-brown fall color. The light tan bark exfoliates into long strips to expose a cinnamon colored under bark, very showy in winter. Pale, creamy white, small, fragrant flowers appear from August into October. The real show occurs in October when the flower petals drop and the long lasting sepals turn bright rosy-pink extending the season of interest.

Uses in the Landscape: An unusual, interesting plant that can be used as an accent, in shrub borders, or in groupings.
