Dynamics of forested ecosytems

Scharenbroch Carbon Study Soil Tree Core Samples 005 FOREST

Structural changes, processes, and patterns of wooded ecosystems in response to natural and anthropogenic activities.

An improved understanding of dynamics and processes in forested ecosystems, across a spectrum of intensity of direct human impacts, from the urban core to protected wilderness areas, is essential to evaluating the functions and services provided by these systems. It is also necessary to understand how dynamics, processes, and functions of these ecosystems will respond to future changes such as global climate change, exotic pest introductions, and landscape fragmentation.
