Art-Inspired Themes Flourish at the Midwest Gardening Symposium; Quintuplex Woodwind Quintet Wrap Up Chamber Concert Series

LISLE, IL (December 31, 2009) -Looking for inspiration for your garden? Receive tips from Arboretum and other horticulture and landscape design experts at this year's "Midwest Gardening Symposium: People, Plants and the Art of the Garden!" March is "Maple Tapping Time!" See how a maple tree is tapped, how the sap is turned into delicious syrup and which types of maples make the best syrup. March 6: 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Just in time for spring, audience members will delight in the ethereal sounds of the "Quintuplex Woodwind Quintet." Hear an exceptional blend of classical standards, jazz greats, and popular favorites reverberate from a flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and French horn as they round out the last chapter of the Chamber Concert Series. March 7: 2:15 p.m.

Have a guys night out! "Just the Guys Snowshoeing Adventure" provides (grand) father and (grand) son an overnight adventure at the Arboretum! See pelts and skulls of local animals, snowshoe through the woods to look and listen for creatures and then enjoy snacks and stories around a warm campfire. In the morning, after a tasty breakfast, go on another exploration snowshoe into the woods to see what the nocturnal animals left behind. Snowshoe activities are dependent upon the presence of at least 4 inches of snow. Cost $45 per person; discounts available for Arboretum members. March 13 - 14: 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 a.m.

Do you Zen? Learn how to tend to a different kind of garden in "Rock Gardening." Kids will get to try their hand at Zen gardening in this drop-in activity in the Children's Garden. All ages, Children's Garden.
Weekdays in March: 1 p.m. - 4 (weather permitting)

Conservation, lifestyles, landscapes and great food! All make up a delightful day with "Rosalind Creasy: The Best Ideas from 30 Years in the Local, Organic Food Movement." Join author and landscape designer, Rosalind Creasy as she shares her global perspective on the trend of using organic foods. Cost $44; special discounts for Arboretum members. March 28: 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.

After the lecture, join Rosalind Creasy for a dinner of locally grown organic food in the Ginkgo Restaurant! "Connected to the Earth: A Celebration Dinner with Special Guest, Rosalind Creasy" allow participants to join Creasy's love of organic healthy food and lively conversation. March 28: 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Are you ready to rock? Come to "Science Rocks!" and learn about different types of rocks, find out what they are used for and make your own "pet rock" to take home! All ages are welcome to this drop-in activity. Children's Garden.
Weekends in March: 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. (weather permitting)

Where are the wild things? Find out where the "Wild Things in the Woods" are at the Arboretum while reading Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are. Afterwards take a short hike through a woodland, create a crown for a little king or queen and join the wild celebration! Registration is now available, call 630-719-2468 or visit www.mortonarb.org. Get out and have some fun exploring a winter wonderland! Grab some friends or family and snowshoe or cross-country ski across the Arboretum. Trek through areas not normally traveled when foliage is thick in the fall, spring and summer seasons. Visitors must bring their own cross-country skis, but snowshoes are available for rent ($8 for up to three hours, limited quantities). Snowshoeing is permitted when there is four inches or more of snow on the ground. All ages, rentals at Visitor Center from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Unless otherwise specified, all Arboretum events and destinations including the Children's Garden are free with Arboretum admission. The 2010 rates are:
$11/adult, ($7 on Wednesday), ages 18-64
$10/senior, ($6 on Wednesday), ages 65 and over
$8/child ($5 on Wednesday), ages 2-17
Under age 2 is free
Parking is free
