Free admission Thanksgiving Day, Enchanted Railroad opens

 LISLE, IL (November 12, 2012) – Make The Morton Arboretum part of your Thanksgiving traditions this year. There’s more to Thanksgiving than food, football and Black Friday. Join us as we appreciate the great outdoors this Thanksgiving.

On Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 22, 2012, take advantage of free admission to The Morton Arboretum from 7 a.m. to sunset. Get out and explore our 16 miles of paved or wood-chipped trails. Check out our Tree House Tales exhibit, featuring six fun-filled, educational tree houses. Note, all buildings and the Children's Garden will be closed. Restrooms will be available in the west pavilion of the Visitor Center and the West Side shelter at Parking Lot 21. Hiking trail maps are available at www.mortonarb.org.

Return on Friday, November 23, 2012, for the grand opening of our Enchanted Railroad. This holiday display features an intricate model railroad traveling through an indoor winter wonderland. The Enchanted Railroad will be open daily through Sunday, January 6, 2013 with the exception of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Tickets are free with admission and available in the Visitor Center, first come, first served.

Then take your little ones on a hunt for lost gnomes in our Children’s Garden. The Children’s Garden is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The Gnome Hunt continues through February.

Pick up the perfect gift for the nature-lover on your Christmas list with The Arboretum Store’s Holiday Trunk Show, Saturday, November 24, 2012, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Meet local artist Rozanne Priebe as she demonstrates her beautiful techniques for capturing nature and the holidays on her one-of-a-kind hand-painted art. Perfect for the holidays for your home or as a gift for someone special.

ADMISSION

Unless otherwise specified, all Arboretum events and destinations including the Children’s Garden are free with Arboretum admission. Parking is free with admission. The 2012 rates for Non-members are:

  • $12/adult, ($8 on Wednesday), ages 18-64
  • $11/senior, ($7 on Wednesday), ages 65 and over
  • $9/child ($6 on Wednesday), ages 2-17
  • Under age 2 is free.
