Families Swarm to Celebrate Bees and Honey
LISLE, IL (July 6, 2012) – September is National Honey Month and the perfect time to head over to The Morton Arboretum to celebrate one of nature’s simplest pleasures – honey, Sept. 8 – 9, 2012.
“Honey Bee Weekend,” includes an expo showcasing the uniqueness and versatility of this golden sweetener. Honey lovers will find honey and bee-themed products from honey mead wine, to candles, lotions and beekeeper kits. A “Honey Brunch ‘n Learn,” will feature a delicious, honey-inspired brunch led by a master beekeeper. Did you know that American’s consume about 1.3 pounds of honey per person each year, adding spoonfuls to tea, drizzling it over toast?
Visitors also will learn how honeybees are part of a critical food system that goes beyond culinary uses. The Arboretum’s bee expert Bronwyn Weaver will answer questions and demonstrate pollinator-friendly gardening, highlighting how fruits and vegetables are pollinated by bees every year. Best part: her homemade honey is on sale at the Arboretum store.
Kids can celebrate the seventh “Happy Bee-Day” of The Children’s Garden, where they have fun dancing the bee dance, making a bee mask and learning about beekeeping in a hands-on discovery activity. A homemade honey competition and “Honeybee Photo” contest also will be held. “
The 2012 rates are:
$12/adult, ($8 on Wednesday), ages 18-64
$11/senior, ($7 on Wednesday), ages 65 and over
$9/child ($6 on Wednesday), ages 2-17
Under age 2 is free. Parking is free
