When you get together with friends or relatives, your time together is special. A place of beauty, like The Morton Arboretum, augments the occasion by providing magnificent vistas, beautiful landscapes, and a backdrop of stately trees that deliver visual memories of the time you spent together.

There are plenty of trails for an easy stroll with friends, miles of hiking paths for vigorous exercise, and exhibits that will stimulate conversation and expose you to something new. Of course, the location is easily accessible from all over the Midwest and is near many hotels and restaurants.

Have you group picnic at The Morton Arboretum

During picnic season (May through September), The Morton Arboretum invites you and your group to enjoy your picnic in a delightful open grassy area, surrounded by a canopy of trees. We can accommodate a very large number of people in one or more tents.

The Arboretum supplies the tents, tables and chairs. Our caterer can offer you picnic fare including onsite grilling and full beverage service.

Talk to our Catering Department about providing group activities.

The Morton Arboretum does require using our in-house caterer for all events.

April through October

The upper deck of the Children's Garden picnic area can be reserved for parties (up to 50 people) from April through October. Party reservation includes admission to the Arboretum for party guests, use of the picnic space for two hours (10 a.m.-noon or 1:30-3:30 p.m.), and optional party activities for an additional fee. Outdoor party hosts may use Arboretum catering or bring their own food (no deliveries allowed).

June through August

Private events are available in the Children's Garden on Friday evenings in summer for up to 100 guests. Private rental includes admission to the Arboretum for guests, use of the Children's garden for two hours (6-8 p.m.), and a nature-inspired craft. Hosts may use Arboretum catering or bring their own food (no deliveries allowed).

November through March

Children's winter parties are held November through March in the Outpost near the Thornhill Education Center. Winter parties include admission for up to 40 guests (children and adults), use of the outpost for two hours (between 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.), and a 45 minute winter-themed activity. Parties are held every day, subject to room availability. Hosts may use Arboretum catering or bring their own food (no deliveries allowed).

Rent our tram for your private party

Take your guests on a scenic ride aboard the Acorn Express open-air tram and learn about key points of interest along the way. Our driver will stop to allow you to take photographs at either West Side gardens or the serene shores of Lake Marmo. We'll provide background music or bring along your favorite CD to enjoy along the way.

For weddings, we have a Wedding Photo Tram Tour that can take your guests on a one-hour, narrated tour of the Arboretum grounds while they take in the scenery and the views. Your private wedding tram makes one scenic photo stop of your choice along the way.
