From cooking classes to drive-in movies, The Morton Arboretum is offering a slate of new events in 2014. Members and visitors of all ages will enjoy the new offerings, including our Chef’s Table series, seasonally-themed dinners, summer festivals and more.
“We’re excited about the new activities planned for 2014,” says Jenelle Hardtke, special events manager at The Morton Arboretum. “This slate of new events offers a great way for people of all ages to enjoy all the Arboretum has to offer, while surrounded by our beautiful, world-class tree collection.”
Highlights of new events at the Arboretum in 2014 include:
Join us for the Chef’s Table cooking series with the Arboretum chef, Jean-Louis Clerc. Starting on Thursday, January 16 and continuing monthly, these themed classes let guests participate and learn from the chef. At the end of each class, participants will engage in a Q & A session with the chef and enjoy their culinary creations. Every month offers a different theme, complete with new recipes to try and enjoy.
Enjoy The Morton Arboretum’s version of a supper club – four seasonal, themed dinners starting with our Whiskey Dinner & Tasting this January 25th. This January’s event highlights the intricacies of whiskey. Taking place in the Gingko Café, guests can enjoy a delicious whiskey-inspired dinner paired with three whiskey tastings. All participants will receive a souvenir tasting glass, recipe cards, and tasting guide. Seasonal dinners are slated for May, August and November.
Drive-In Nights: Movies at The Morton Arboretum
This summer, The Morton Arboretum is bringing back the beloved tradition of the drive-in movie, showing a series of popular movies on the Arboretum’s grounds. With family-friendly picks, our Drive-In Movie series is perfect for a date night or family outing. Bring dinner and make a picnic of it. Drive-In Movies are slated for June 6 & 7, August 8 & 9, and October 10 & 11.
Festivals at the Arboretum
The Arboretum will be hosting a series of festivals to celebrate the diverse cultures around the globe and our global tree collections:
• July 5-6: Celebrating America
• August 2-3: Explore Asian Cultures
• September 6-7: Immerse yourself in European Cultures
Other new events slated at the Arboretum for 2014 include a Wine Festival on June 20-21, and a Beer Festival on October 3-4.
To round out the year, many of our most popular events are returning. This month, don't miss the return of Husky Heroes! In February, the Arboretum again celebrates chocolate with a slate of candy-themed events; while April features our annual Arbor Week celebration including our Plant Sale and Arbor Day 10K run. On May 17 and September 13, bring your furry pets to the Arboretum for the return of Tails on the Trails, when dogs are welcomed to explore our 16 miles of hiking trails. Also returning are our popular Wednesdays, Woods & Wine series, Thursday Family Nights in the Children’s Garden, Theatre-Hikes™ performances, Honey Bee Weekend, the Fall Color Festival and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra summer concert series.
