LISLE, IL (April 19, 2013) - The Morton Arboretum will remain closed to the public Saturday and Sunday, April 20-21, 2013, due to extensive flooding. The Arboretum has been closed since Thursday, April 18.
All public events, including the Arbor Day 10K and EcoFest, scheduled for Sunday, April 21, are canceled. All Saturday and Sunday classes are canceled. All Saturday and Sunday Scout programs and Children's Garden birthday parties are canceled. Rescheduling details will be available early next week.
The Flowering Petal Tea Party has NOT been cancelled. This annual mother-daughter event at the Thornhill Education Center will proceed as scheduled. Please use the Park Boulevard entrance located on the west side of the Arboretum.
Private events are NOT cancelled and will be held as scheduled. Private evening events held at the Visitor Center on the east side of the Arboretum, please use the main entrance. Private events at the Thornhill Education Center on the west side of the Arboretum, please use the Park Boulevard entrance.
The Arboretum's phone system is down and is expected to remain down for several days.
The East Branch of the DuPage River, which runs through the Arboretum grounds, rose 10 feet above its pre-storm level, which was two feet higher than the all-time record. The Morton Arboretum is thankful to all who are hard at work cleaning up and restoring the Arboretum's collections, grounds and facilities, and to those who have expressed their ongoing support for the Arboretum.
