Give Your Autumn a Running Start with the 14th Annual Fall Color 5K Run & Walk

The Fall Color 5K will take place October 1.
August 29, 2017

Breathe in the crisp air during the first days of fall when the 14th annual Fall Color 5K Run & Walk and Kid’s Dash takes place on Sunday, October 1. After completing the course through the Arboretum’s scenic east woods, runners will enjoy a post-race party complete with live music.

The first of the Arboretum’s Fall Color Festival events, the 5K will take runners through a challenging U.S.A. Track & Field-certified course, which includes ascending the top of Frost Hill. Participants are tracked using the ChronoTrack B-tagTM timing system, and each runner will receive a technical t-shirt, recovery food and water and the opportunity to enjoy the 1,700-acre Arboretum for the rest of the day. Runners 21 and older will also receive a complimentary beer—Arbor Oak Amber Ale made using oak chips from the Arboretum’s own trees— to toast to their finish. Awards will be given out in age and gender categories.

The Kid’s Dash is designed for ages 2 to 10 and each child participating will receive a cotton T-shirt and participation ribbon. Kids can participate in one of three categories:  2 to 4 year olds will race for 50 yards, 5 and 6 year olds will run a quarter mile and 7 to 10 year olds will complete a half mile.

The 5K begins at 8 a.m. and the dash at 9:30 a.m. Those who pre-register can pick up their bib number, timing strip, T-shirt and additional race day information from Dick Pond Athletics, 2775 Maple Avenue, Lisle, at select times Thursday, September 28 through Saturday, September 30. For pick-up times, visit mortonarb.org.

The 5K is $40 for members and $45 for nonmembers through September 23. From September 24 through September 30, the race is $45 for members and $50 for nonmembers. On race day, the cost is $50 for members and $55 for nonmembers. Registration includes admission to the Arboretum.  Participants are encouraged to explore the 1,700 acres including the Children’s Garden and Maze Garden following the race.

Those who can’t participate but would like to support The Morton Arboretum’s vision of a greener, healthier, and more beautiful world are welcome to register in the Virtual Runner/Walker category.  In exchange for a $25 donation, contributors will receive a race T-shirt.

The Morton Arboretum thanks DuPage Medical Group, Presenting Sponsor of Fall Color Festival, and 5K sponsors Dick Pond Athletics, Clif Bar, Chicago Athlete Magazine, and Boxed Water is Better.
