Chamber Concert Series tickets now on sale

Join us for five intimate classical concerts and sociable receptions featuring music from Avalon String Quartet, The Newberry Consort, Second City Musick, Fifth House Ensemble, and Gaudete Brass Quintet this winter as part of our Chamber Concert Series.
 
Each chamber concert begins at 2:15 p.m. in the Arbor Room of the historic Thornhill Education Center. After each performance, gather for a reception to meet the artists and fellow audience members in the splendor of the Founder's Room, the original library of the Arboretum's founder, Joy Morton.
 
Concert tickets are $24 for members and $29 for nonmembers for each show. If you’re a music lover that doesn’t want to miss a note, be sure to purchase a five-concert series ticket for a discounted price; $110 for members and $135 for nonmembers. Avalon String Quartet

Described by the Chicago Tribune as "an ensemble that invites you—ears, mind, and spirit—into its music," the Avalon String Quartet has established itself as one of the country's leading chamber music ensembles. Formed in 1995, the quartet has gone on to win numerous prestigious awards including the top prize at the 2000 Music Competition of the ARD, the 1999 Concert Artists Guild International Competition and the 1998 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition.
 
Newberry Consort

Beguiling and intelligent, provocative and classic, ravishingly beautiful and deliciously edgy, the Newberry Consort has been delighting audiences for nearly three decades. Directed by David Douglass, Newberry Musician-in-Residence, and early-music diva Ellen Hargis, the ensemble plumbs the Newberry Library's vast music collection for its selections. A concert of 17th- and 18th-century music of Italy and England will be presented at this concert by the Consort.
 
Second City Musick

Second City Musick is a consort of viols based in Chicago. Specializing in 16th- to 18th-century music, the consort brings intimate chamber music out of the chamber and into the lives of modern concertgoers. Active members within the early-music community in Chicago, the members of this trio have founded other ensembles such as the Haymarket Opera Company and Wayward Sisters and regularly perform with the Baroque Band, Callipygian Players, Music of the Baroque and the Newberry Consort.

The Chicago-based ensemble is a versatile and dynamic chamber group praised by the New York Times for its "conviction, authority and finesse." Founded in 2004, the Gaudete Brass Quintet is devoted to presenting serious brass chamber music at the highest level of excellence and to encouraging worldwide appreciation of the art of brass chamber music. The quintet is committed to expanding the brass quintet repertoire by commissioning new works from modern composers as well as historically informed performances of Renaissance music.
