"There is no spot of ground, however arid, bare or ugly, that cannot be tamed into such a state as may give an impression of beauty and delight."

About
The Know Maintenance Perennial Garden by Roy Diblik

The library is brimming with gardening resources, and what better time to highlight them than just after Arbor Day and the plant sale, when hundreds of trees and gardens are being planted for the new season! One of our newest  acquisitions on perennials, The Know Maintenance Perennial Garden by Roy Diblik, is a guide to a low maintenance garden achieved by knowing about the plants and how they work together to form self-sustaining plant communities. Very recently published, this work features guidance on getting to know gardens' natural soil conditions, light, and moisture, and then advice on choosing plants with those considitons in mind to maximize garden beauty and productivity. Diblik provides the reader with profiles on 74 perennials along with 62 possible garden plans for gardeners' reference. He ends with a chapters on creating thriving plant communities by planting perennials with similar traits together, and portraits of successful gardeners that make it all work.

Excerpt:

"This book is about gardening in a new way - one that is in harmony with how plants grow and interact with each other in nature. All it requires from you, the reader, is that you come to know your plants. Once you acquire that knowledge, you will discover that you actually need to spend far less time maintaining them, because they exist in largely self-sustaining communities. I call this new way of gardening the 'Know Maintenance' approach - and it can be applied to everything, not just the garden."
