Fragrance Garden: Follow Your Nose to This Inviting Place

Fragrance Garden

This half-acre garden contains plants that have flowers, fruit, and/or foliage that are fragrant. The garden was originally built and planted in 1984 and currently hosts over 95 different types of trees, shrubs, and perennials. It can be found just west of the Thornill Education Center, adjacent to the far north end of Joy Path.

The Fragrance Garden is a favorite among regular visitors. Its tranquility, inviting benches and small fountain encourage relaxation, reflection, and a greater appreciation for nature. During the summer, the garden is accented with additional color and fragrance by a variety of summer annuals in containers and beds. A few aquatic plants are added to the fountain in order to further enhance this charming place.

What kind of permanent plantings might you find in this garden? You can count on seeing Kentucky wisteria (Wisteria macrostachya), Korean boxwood (Buxus microphylla var. koreana), and little spire Russian-sage (Pervoskia 'Little Spire').
