Tails on the Trails

Tails on the Trails
On May 9 and September 12, 2015 enjoy a "paw"fect day out with your pup as you meander down the Arboretum's 16 miles of hiking trails.  Shop from local businesses and organizations in the pet expo, test out the agility course, and join us for guided hikes. Meet dogs available for adoption and inquire about volunteering with local pet shelters. Sign your pooch up for some doggy games, including the crowd-favorite peanut butter licking contest! Don't forget to pick up your free pet bandana at The Morton Arboretum booth at the vendor expo.

Tails on the Trails event is from 10:00am-4:00pm, but dogs are allowed on the grounds from 7:00am-sunset for hiking.

Your visit helps support our mission of planting and conserving trees and other plants for a greener, healthier, and more beautiful world.

What about the recent outbreak of the dog flu?

The Morton Arboretum encourages all visitors to use their best judgement when choosing to attend our event with their dog. Please take the time to read the following tips from Dr. Alexis Newman of Partners with Paws Veterinary Services:

  • If your dog has been sick in the last two weeks, shows any symptoms or is being treated for the dog flu, we ask that you do not attend this event. Remember to join us for our other Tails on the Trails event on September 12.
  • All dogs must have updated vaccinations and registrations; we do not recommend bringing any puppies who have not received their complete series of vaccines.
  • We recommend that you bring your own water bottle for your dog to drink from. Although we will have water bowls available, diseases can be spread by sharing water bowls.
  • The Morton Arboretum does not allow dogs on a regular basis, so we do not have pet waste on our grounds. To maintain this, we ask that you be responsible with picking up your dog waste, as diseases can spread by exposure to waste.
  • Dr. Alexis Newman, will be present at Tails on the Trails for any questions regarding general dog health,  if any concerns, dog owners speak with their veterinarian or they can call Dr. Newman's hospital with specific  questions: 630.301.2320
  • We invite you to come out and enjoy Tails on the Trails, explore the grounds, and minimize dog play with unfamiliar dogs.
  • The Morton Arboretum cares for all dogs and we want to make sure everyone stays safe and healthy at our event!
