Origami in the Garden Opening Weekend

Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21 
11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Children’s Garden and Arbor Court

Celebrate the arrival of the Origami in the Garden sculpture exhibit with live performances and activities based on Japanese culture.

Experience taiko drumming, traditional dances, origami performances and more!

Enjoy activities in the Children's Garden, including origami folding and a variety of Japanese crafts.

Learn more about the classes available such as ikebana, bonsai, brush painting, paper-making, and more!

Join us for a fun-filled, educational weekend full of origami and Japanese culture.

Saturday, May 20

11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  (weather permitting) Cirque du Papier a roaming paper performer, experience an interactive origami experience

11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  (weather permitting) Drop-in Storytime in the Children's Garden with arts and crafts

*All other Origami Opening Weekend activities have been cancelled  on Saturday, May 20 due to threat of severe weather. Sunday's schedule will continue as planned.

 

Sunday, May 21

11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Cirque du Papier a roaming paper performer, experience an interactive origami experience

11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Drop-in Storytime in the Children's Garden with arts and crafts

11:30 a.m and 12:30 p.m. Ikebana Demonstration, learn about the art of floral design

Noon - 12:45 p.m. Taiko drumming and Shubu-kai dance performance, enjoy taiko drumming with traditional Japanese dancing

1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Sumi-E Brush Painting Demonstration, watch traditional Japanese brush painting
