Sketching the Arboretum’s Rare Trees

An artist sketches beneath a shade tree.
The Arboretum is home to many wonderful species of rare and endangered trees. Join Kimberly Mullarkey for the chance to study and sketch a different rare tree in this plein air workshop:
  • June 10: katsura and ginkgo
  • June 17: koyama spruce, dawn redwood, and jack pine
  • June 24: paperbark maple

Sign up for one week, or dig deeper and sign up for all three.

Notes: This class will take place outdoors, weather permitting. Limit 15
Supplies: The following supplies are required:

  • Graphite Pencils (2H, HB, 2B or whatever hardness you prefer)
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Erasers - kneaded eraser and white Mars Staedtler p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px 'Helvetica Neue'; color: #454545} p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px 'Helvetica Neue'; color: #454545; min-height: 14.0px}
  • Hardbound sketchbook or individual sheets of paper (with a drawing board for support if you have individual sheets)

Select Saturdays, June 10, 17, and  24, 2017, 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Location varies.

  • Section A: Saturday, June 10 meet at the Herbarium in the Research Building
  • Section B: Saturday, June 17 meet at the Herbarium in the Research Building
  • Section C: Saturday, June 24 meet at the Herbarium in the Research Building
  • Section D: Series, June 10 through June 24

Nonmembers: Fees include admission to the Arboretum.
