Sculptures Inspired by Science: Physics, Proteins, and People

Three metal sculptures depicting a human figureSpend a summer evening with artist and scientist Julian Voss-Andreae, as he shares his work spanning quantum physics, biomolecules, and his novel approaches to figurative sculpture. Science and art both help us understand the natural world. Julian will share his own story, how science has inspired his unique sculptures, and how art can help us understand science.

Julian Voss-Andreae studied physics at the universities of Berlin and Edinburgh and did his graduate research participating in a seminal experiment probing the foundations of quantum physics in one of the world’s leading research groups at the University of Vienna. His science training enables him to draw cutting-edge approaches from very diverse fields to reimagine the ancient art of sculpture. Voss-Andreae regularly shows at international art fairs and galleries, and has works in major collections in North America, Asia, Europe, and Australia.

Instructor: Julian Voss-Andreae
