This one-day workshop explores transforming the emotion of photography into words. We begin with a lecture about how to think about and write poetry with a brief overview of composition. We’ll focus on two forms of poetry: the Haiku and the prose poem. The lecture will be followed by two hours of photographing your favorite nature scene (anything from expansive landscape to a close-up image of a leaf, flower or insect) around Lake Marmo. In those two hours you’ll also be taking notes to later use for your poem. A break for lunch and we’ll return to the classroom to write poetry that best describes the image you photographed and we’ll share each other’s images and poetry. Each participant will receive a copy of Columbia Poetry Review (a nationally distributed journal published by Columbia College Chicago).
