Grab a paddle and join knowledgeable naturalists for a guided, 7-mile kayaking excursion through the protected acres of Glacial Park on Nippersink Creek, the largest tributary to the Fox River. No paddling experience needed! After a quick lesson, get paddling. Learn about the native wildlife as you paddle past restored wetlands and prairies.
Nippersink Creek and its wetlands support a thriving diversity of fish, frogs, and other aquatic creatures. Shorebirds, waterfowl and other wading birds can be seen along the shorelines in addition to myriad restored native wetland plants and prairie wildflowers. The creek itself is a shallow, calm waterway, great for any level of paddler.
Our starting point is at Keystone Landing in Richmond, Illinois, about 1.5 hours from The Morton Arboretum. Boat rental, paddles, and life jackets provided, along with basic paddle instructions for those new to kayaking. Expect to spend three to four leisurely hours on the water. Bring a sack lunch for a picnic afterwards while we wait for transportation back to our cars.
