Jeddeloh Dwarf Hemlock

Tagged as: Hemlock, Low Growing Evergreens

Botanical Name: Tsuga canadensis 'Jeddeloh'
Common Name: Jeddeloh Dwarf Hemlock

Height: 3-4'  Spread: 3-4'  Habit/Form: Rounded  Growth Rate: Very slow  Zone: 4-8
Cultural Requirements: Best in moist, well-drained soil in partial to full shade, sheltered from winter sun and winds that can cause desiccation and browning of leaves. No serious diseases or pests, except deer, in the Chicago region. Not tolerant of salt or pollution.
Ornamental Characteristics: A dwarf, spreading, mounded evergreen shrub with fine-textured, dark green, ½" needles arranged spirally along the stems with an extra row of flattened needles on the top of stems. The center of this plant is shorter than the perimeter, forming a funnel-shaped depression. Small ½" cones may be produced on mature specimens. (Other interesting dwarf-hemlock cultivars are also available, but may be more difficult to find. Contact The Morton Arboretum's Plant Clinic or Sterling Morton Library for nursery catalog information.)
Uses in the Landscape: Useful in shady situations as a specimen or accent plant.
