Cultural Requirements: Full sun to part shade; moist to well-drained acidic soil, develops iron chlorosis in high pH; tolerant of temporary flooding; benefits from a 3 to 4 inch layer of mulch and supplemental water in dry periods.
Ornamental Characteristics: Exfoliating bark exposes patches of cream, red, and orange-tan color add winter interest; leaves glossy, dark green and less prone to leaf spot than the species; changes to yellow fall color.
Use in the Landscape: Handsome specimen tree with winter interest for areas which are wet for part of the year
