Height: 10-15'+ Spread: 10-15' Habit/Form: Rounded Growth Rate: Medium Zone: 5-9

Cultural Requirements: Best in full sun to light shade; tolerant of wet, alkaline soil; native to the southeastern U.S.

Ornamental Characteristics: Rounded, suckering shrub; dull to glossy dark green foliage; persistent bright red fruit on female plants; male plants required for pollination of females to produce fruit; gray stems attractive in winter; yellow fall color.

Use in the Landscape: Best in mass in large landscapes.

Birds Attracted: 49+ species including flicker, catbird, thrasher, waxwing, and robin


Plant Appeal for birds: Fruit matures in autumn and persists through winter; nesting site

Plant tolerant of flooded areas for extended periods of time.
