Height: 10-20' Spread: 10-15' Habit/Form: Rounded to spreading Growth Rate: Fast Zone: 3-8
Cultural Requirements: Full sun to part shade; prefers moist, organically rich, well-drained soil. Plants are shallow-rooted and benefit with a layer of organic mulch to maintain a cool root environment. Avoid extremely dry sites. Because flowers are produced on the current season's wood, pruning in late winter or early spring encourages vigorous growth and large flowers.
Ornamental Characteristics: Almost all of the white flowers are sterile and densely packed, forming a large panicle. As flowers mature they become slightly pink-tinged, changing to brown. This is the most common form of hydrangea to produce large flowers that literally weigh down branches. Prune and thin plant periodically to 5 to 10 primary shoots.
Uses in the Landscape: This plant can be difficult to incorporate into the landscape due to its size and texture but can be used in group plantings and shrub borders for its summer flowering.
