Cultural requirements: Full sun in moist, well-drained soils; pH adaptable; tolerant of temporary flooding and drought conditions once established
Ornamental Characteristics: Stately tree with massive trunk, dark gray to brown furrowed trunk; lustrous dark green leaves turn yellow brown to wine red in fall; large fringed cap acorns are edible
Use in the Landscape: Large specimen tree for parks and large areas

Aerial Salt Tolerance: Moderate degree of salt tolerance; use in low exposed areas
