Cultural Requirements: Best in full sun to ensure good flower formation and color, but will tolerate some shade. Prefers well-drained, acidic, organic-rich, loamy soil. Plants can become chlorotic (yellow leaves) in high pH soils. No serious pest or disease problems. Prune after flowering.

Ornamental Characteristics: Fothergilla is a beautiful four-season shrub. In spring, 1 to 2-inch long, white, bottlebrush-like flowers appear before the leaves. Flowers release a spicy, honey fragrance while in bloom. The blue-green leaves turn a striking, yellow to scarlet color in the fall, often with combinations of colors on one leaf.

Uses in the Landscape: This superb shrub is a welcome addition to any landscape. Can be used in shrub and perennial borders, foundation plant, or in groupings.
